Hello,

I need your clarification on intermittent fillet weld.

Shall we go with stich or intermittent fillet weld for any steels in lesser length i.e, what if 2'-0" long steel have to weld using designation of 1/4 fillet weld with 3" long welds spaced 12" on center.

What's the weld supposed to accomplish, though? And a drawing?

typing over a cat, sorry. Now she's blocking my right hand.

If the weld isn't necessary structurally, the intermittent weld could be provide just to give a measure of keeping the materials fairly close together versus there to transfer force.

I often use intermittent welds for structural purposes, too.

From my Exceptions:
-FOR INTERMITTENT WELDS, LENGTH SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN THE GREATER OF 4 TIMES THE WELD SIZE OR 40MM (1-1/2”). FOR COMPRESSION MEMBERS, THE MAX CLEAR SPACING BETWEEN WELDS SHALL NOT EXCEED 12”. FOR TENSION MEMBERS, THE MAX CLEAR SPACING BETWEEN WELDS SHALL NOT EXCEED 18” (CSA W59 11.4.13.2).
