Hi,
I am playing around in Solid Edge during slow hours and have a little question.

Body.jpg

I have a pipe section with a cutout inside, as shown in the attached figure. I'm trying to fill that cutout with a part that will follow the cutout as the inner diameter changes.

What I have tried is to create a part in-place (in assembly) and then use include to use the edges of the cutout. I use the edges for a protrusion.

After doing this, I get the nice yellow part-link and everything, but when I change the inner diameter, the new part is just standing there, no changes to be seen.

I hope the question is clear enough and that someone can give me some tips.

Thank you.

ALT+U (Hold down the ALT key and press the U key) updates all links - that should do it.
Alternatively if you open the 'inner' part it should update.

Works like a charm. I thought it was supposed to update links automatically.

Thank you.

Well, it actually does not work as a charm.
The part follows the cutout radially, but when I change the length of the pipe it does not.

Is this question clear enough or do you guys need some figures?

Thanks

Depends on how you've defined the length of the cutout.
If you want the ends of the cutout as references you need to do an Inter Part Copy of those faces into the infill model, then use From/To for extents.

So I make a in-place part from assembly. Then I do a part copy by choosing the pipe section as the part to copy?

Do I copy as design or construction body?

Thank you.

Nevermind, it works now!

Thank you so much, this is actually quite cool :)

As you should now have found out, there are 2 ways to do copies of parts into another part file.
The first method - Insert > Part Copy - will copy the whole part into your new file, either as a base feature or as reference. This does not require any other files to be open, and the inserted file can be a part or assembly.
The second way - Insert > Inter Part Copy - needs to be done via edit-in-place from an assembly.
You should be prompted to select the part to copy from, then the faces to copy (or the whole body if you like).
If you use this method you will always need to do any edits through the assembly.
