We have a 60 Ton electric overhead crane in our facility that was manufactured in 1892. The bridge is riveted construction and has a 60'-0" span. The manufacturer has advised that we remove it from service, without any physical inspection, I assume simply because of its age and the potential liability. We realize that metal cold works becoming brittle and has a fatique limit as well. Are there any non-distructive tests we can perform on the steel &/or rivets to determine their integrity?
