Installing a 1746-NI8 on a SLC

So its been ahwile since I have installed a card on a live system. I do know I need to kill the power to install a new card but I'm a bit fuzzy after that. I somewhat remember something about taking a snapshot to remember all my numbers and totals than download the new configuration with the card added to the I/O list than start it back up? Kinda close?? Thanks
