I have recently moved to work in the Middle East and the GI subbie is proposing to use an Acker Borehole Vane. I have always used a Geonor Borehole Vane, is there anything I should look out for?

Thank you in advance.

HKBeaver,

The Acker set that we have does not have a thrust bearing guide for use with hollow-stem augers. We have had to make a custom thrust bearing guide to fit our CME augers. We used an old auger drive cap that had the hex driving rod sheared off and had a local shop modify that a bit to create a platform for the thrust bearing to sit securely on our auger flights.

The vane shapes are tapered, but the constants can be easily computed from ASTM D 2573.
