Hello,
I have a few questions regarding ventilation for a some conditions below:
1. There is a large shop space with no flammable/combustible materials, with the exception of Class IIIB Engine Oil. This oil is being dispensed from reels. Being class IIIB, the flash point is so high that there wouldn't be any flammable off gassing during normal conditions. What is the required ventilation rate? Is 1 CFM/SF exhaust required?
From NFPA 30A, it seems 1 CFM/SF exhaust would not be required, because it's not a class I (or class II) liquid. However, NFPA 30 is a little less clear in Ch 18.
2. In another space, there was reference that paint could be stored in large containers. In general, what liquid classification is oil based paint? (Understand it could vary by type). The quantity these maximum based on the shelving is (192) 5 gallon buckets - 960 gallons total. Although it will likely be half that or less. The buckets should be sealed. Is there any special ventilation needed?
