We have 125VDC, 400 Amp-Hours Battery bank for our existing Battery charger. We are trying to upgrade our existing Battery charger.

Other than looking into our desired Input/output voltage and current, what are the standards for designing a Battery charger based on Battery bank capacity? Is there any Industry guidelines like IEEE etc? Please suggest.

Size of standing load that the battery charger may need to support, as well as the current required to charge the batteries to a defined point within a defined period of time.

E.g. Charger must support a standing load of 25A plus 40A (C10 rate for 400Ah battery as an example). Beyond that, consider the redundancy that may be required in the architecture, and whether additional capacity or charging modules are needed.

Thank you for the input. I think the general rule of thumbs suggests, the maximum charger output Amperage is 20% of Battery bank size.
