In-Situ Density Testing (UK)

This looks like a very thorough resource so I apologies if this question has been asked and answered before.

Those of you who operate in the UK - With regard to back-filling voids upon which housing may be developed, can you tell me where I may find guidance regarding the required frequency of in-situ density testing of compacted fill. I understand that Series 600 provides detail of materials and BS1377 provides much detail of testing but I cannot find guidance of frequency.

The document you NEED is BR 424 "Building on Fill: Geotechnical Aspects" by the BRE (Building Research Establishment), and ISBN 1 86081 509 X
I say need as series 600 is for Highways, not buildings, and as such the limits set under the SHW may be insufficient for buildings. The paper which a lot of geotechnical reports referes to from Trantor and Charles is included within this document, and it also includes reccomendations on frequency of testing, types of tests and appropriate methods of supervision. I am surprised you are not already intimately aware of this document if you are looking at specifiying testing and frequency of testing for earthworks under buildings. From your "name" it suggests that you have a preference for environmental issues, and if this is the case I strongly suggest to source the advice of an experienced geotechnical engineer before you 'assume' values from a document will be sufficient for your needs.
