Importing tiff, jpg, png and pdf? 2

Hi.

How can I import an image file with a format different to TIFF?
NX is supposed to be able to import jpg and png too. But when you browse for the file only Tiff files seem pickable.
Isn't it?

I want to use it as a base to sketch a spline on it.
Can I also import an image within a pdf?

For this particular function, 'Raster Image', it only supports TIFF images. However, you create a planar surface and than using the Materials/Texture tools in Visualize Shape you can assign it some material like 'White Plastic' and then edit it to Wrap an Image on it, which can be either a .tif, .jpg or .png file. The result is pretty much that same as 'Raster Image' just that it takes a few extra steps.

And, NO, PDF's are not importable into NX for any purpose.

Hello.

I have another problem.
If I import the raster image and I place it on a plane ...
later, I cannot use it because whenever I place the mouse over the image it gets preselected and therefore it turns red, preventing me from seeing anything.

Try changing your default selection filter to something that won't trigger a pre-selection on the image, perhaps curve or point. If you leave it on "no selection filter" it will pre-select the image when you mouse over it.

It would be better if you were to place the planar surface, and thus the image, on a 'Visible' yet NOT selectable Layer.

And if you're thinking of selecting the planar surface as the sketch plane, while you CAN do that, it's probably a very poor workflow. It would be much better to simply created the planar surface in the defualt X-Y Plane of the Datum CSYS, move it to a Visible-only layer and then create your sketch using THAT same Datum Plane. If you had used the actual planar surface as your Sketch plane then the surface would be a 'parent' of the sketch meaning that you could never delete nor suppress this surface if you didn't want it to be included in the part file at some future date without having to mess with re-parenting the sketch, so you might as well take care of that situation right upfront.

Note that with NX 9.0 we have enhanced the 'Raster Image' function to use the standard NX dialog tools with the sorts of options and settings that one would expect in a more modern version, such as setting not only the size but the orientation of the image including flipping and mirroring, picking any arbitrary plane (not limited to just the WCS X-Y plane), set the color mode (Greyscale, Monochrome, RGB), a 'preview' mode, etc. But the one enhancement that will be appreciated here is that it will now support not only TIFF, but also JPEG and PNG images. Also the images, once created are much more editable than in the past giving you access to virtually all of the original options and settings.
