Importing Solid Model into Solidworks

I have to import a solid model from Unigraphics into Solidworks, so I can run Cosmos on it. What do I import it in as, or can it even be done?

YOu should export the model from Unigraphics as a parasolid. When you open it in SolidWorks you can save it as a SLDPRT.

I agree w/ MadMango. Parasolid is the best way. Since UG and SW have the parasolid kernel, no geometry is lost or mistranslated.

SW can open native UG, but this can get messy. I don't like it.

I agree with the others. I also have opened native UG in SW and it created surfaces shooting out from the part. I was better off re-creating. Parasolids works best.

I've opened native UG files a number times with no problems. Some older UG files come in empty though. I would try that first, then the parasolid option if that isn't working.

I think the parasolid would be the best route since you plan to use COSMOS. That way you don't have to knit surfaces together and spend time fixing the model...at that point it's almost worth building it within SWx.

I do a lot of file transfer between Pro/E and SWx and Pro/E and CATIA. When time allows me I just rebuild the model that way I have the ability to optimize the geometry when in COSMOS or CAMWorks.....just something to consider.
