Importing Motors into Brazil

Hello all,

Has anyone had experience with projects supplied to Brazil where they had electrical motors ( <250kW) in their scope?
where NEMA / IEC motors accepted, or is there an additional requirements (ABNT mark?

My problems with that in the past, on mining equipment, was that they use 380V, but 60Hz, not 50Hz.
You can use a 460V 60Hz motor on a 380V 50Hz system because the V/Hz ratio is for all intents the same. But not so for a 380V 60Hz system. I ended up having to buy motors from Weg in Brazil, have them sent to me in Oregon, then shipped the machines (rock crushers) back to Brazil with their motors on it.

I once had to spec and purchase motors for a job in Chile. The delivery time for 380V 50Hz motors was too long. I had to have the equipment ready for the sailing of a cargo ship. Space was already booked and the sailing time was fixed. Fortunately the V per Hz ratio was correct and I was able to have a motor shop supply new nameplates showing the new ratings at 380V/50Hz.
The part that may help you out is my experience purchasing the motors.
During my search, I was in contact with a manufacturers rep. He was happy to supply any information that I wanted but informed me that due to existing exclusive agreements with suppliers, I would have to purchase through an authorized reseller.
When he realized that the motors were for export to Chile he said that the agreements were only for domestic sales and he would be happy to sell to us direct.
We saved a lot of money.

What I found out was that motors being imported into Brazil require an ABNT mark according to ABNT NBR 17094-1:2008
A law was passed in an effort to lower the electric consumption levels, more details here:

http://www.planalto.gov.br/ccivil_03/decreto/2002/D4508.htm

This law is mostly involved in regulating the efficiency levels of these motors.
This applies to motors <185kW
