Importing into Solidworks from Inventor

I have created the same thread in the "Inventor" forum, but I would like to know if anyone knows what file type I need to save an Inventor drawing in to be able to open/edit it in Solidworks?

Drawing or model?

SolidWorks can import (not perfectly-formatted) DXF and DWG files.

It can also shows I can import Inventor part files, along with the other standard parasolid, IGES, STEP, etc. but I've not tried Inventor files before.

*.iges, *.step, *.sat are generally good file types. I import files from Revit as *.sat. They come in as imported solids. You can then use FeatureWorks, if you have it, to recognize the features.

Models can import using .stp, .iges, and .sat file formats. Drawings on the other hand I can't find an acceptable format. I am trying to import 2D drawings with rendered isometric views.

there is no way to do this, Inv can save your drawing as this extentions DWG, DXF, DWF, DWFX,and etc, you can save your darwing with DWG format but you should edite this drawing by SWDWG editor!

about solid types file you can Save your file in STEP, ACIS, IGS,etc. then drag this files to SW, in this way SW start to importing your files, take note that the imported parts nameed "Imported" that its means the parasolid file canot changed (But you can add any other featurs to this parasolid in SW), So you can't edit the featurs that you use them in INV for the part construction, if you want to do this job in SW ( By the means if you want that SW can edit the parasolid files)as Dear Mr.JMirisola wrote: you must install SW>Feature Works, and upload it in SW, By this way if you import any parasolid to SW , It ask you that "Do You want SW Recognize the Features on parasolid file?" if you accept this; Sw Start to Recegnization of featurs that used in construction of parasolid fils.
But Autodesk Inventor 2009 can open Sw files without any problems.(this isn't enablied on Lower Versions) if you open Import panel in AD.INV you can see that the SW files extentions (sldprt,sldasm) added to Inv suport files list.

Notice Inventor won't open SolidWorks drawings either.

I tried saving a drawing from Inventor as an AutoCAD.dwg file instead of an Inventor.dwg file. After opening in SolidWorks it showed like an image that could not be edited in any way.
I would convert the model and recreate the drawing in SolidWorks.

Caution you about scale mistakes that can occurred in this method, I have a bad remember about it! there is a part that we just have a Step file format from it, I import this file to SW and prepare a drawing from it with maximum details in geometrical and dimensional tolerances, after producing this part I send that to assembling group, there is a hole at the center of this part that a magnet with 80mm height must be fitted on it, this magnet was grinded to obtain (-+0.01) accurate in height, but when we try to put it in the hole on the part, it fall down deeply, and lost in it, you can imagine my expression on that scene, when I check my drawings I found that the hole height is (120) in the Step file, this mistake can annoy you in file transferring between 3d modeler and FE analyzer too, for exam: you modeler unit system is based in (mm) but the FEA software is on (cm), when you run an analysis on this file all of you results would be wrong! but maybe you couldn’t find the error resource because your FE model is 0.01 bigger than your actual model,
can anyone say me how quote is work in this site?where it is?

I won't make any mistakes, I don't import Inv files into SW...or the other way. I have Inventor, but don't use it.

My hinting is not about you, I say that this type of mistakes can be happen in that method if you don’t take care to them! But about Inventor I strongly recommend that use it, it’s very interesting , and powerful in modeling, assembling, Dynamical simulations (pro Version), Statically analysis and content center library, it has a wonderful utility to designing of engineering parts such as Shafts, Timing belts, Bolts, clevises pins, brake and etc, you can perform all necessary analysis to designing of each of them,

What do you mean by "10 full pages"?

The Process TGML information is only one page, albeit with a scroll bar. I understand that English is not your first language, but it is a very simple read.
