So export of IGES format models was requested of me.

Rather large, detailed models were converted using SE19. I opened the IGES file afterward and everything worked ok (except for 20 minute processing time to open!).

The engineer recieved and looked at the file, with obvious errors. Shapes/Bodies had changed very significantly. The file was on the order of 37 Mb (unzipped).

So from what I have been reading, IGES is about the worst possible sharing format. Step is my preferance, but IGES was the one requested. From what I see IGES is more suited to surfaces and not solids. I am not even aware of when you would be exporting just surfaces.

Anyways, Are there options I should select to insure optimum export of models? Or should I suggest a different format all together?

Also, I've had bad luck importing IGES files in general. A lot of errors/stitching necessary usually.

I'd always push to go down the parasolid route, what is the end program/format that end user wishes?

not sure, Nobody told me where its going. It is going out to vendors to see if anyone can beat the current Vendor I would assume.

From what I've seen see if they'll accept Parasolid as SLemin says, else as you say step may be a little better.

Is the model a part or an assembly?
