Hi,

When I try to import the following file in NX8.5

download.aspx

I have got only 2 notes

Is it possible to obtain the 3D or is it a limitation in our dwg translator ?

I know that the 3D is inside because I was able to open the file in autocad then export an iges ==> and import in NX

download.aspx

Thanks in advance

For NX, I'd stick with Parasolid, STEP or IGES (in that order) if I were desiring 3D, regardless of what other CAD softwares may or may not support with their flavor of DXF/DWG. I do not believe NX's DXF translator was ever intended to support 3D AutoCAD files due to IGES being a valid option for 3D coming out of AutoCAD.

Independent of your situation above, DXF is always last on my list of neutral files that I'd want to have sent to me - DXF is or at least was limited with the spline complexity it could support. Something to the effect that anything higher than 3 degree wasn't supported.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I agree with you.

But my customer have not access to AUTOCAD and have a sample AUTOCAD assembly to import in NX. He has no way to obtain STEP, IGES or PARASOLID files, only dwg [sad]

Yeah, but since you can open AutoCAD and translate to IGES, they've got you to help them, right? [thumbsup2]

Didier,

Glad to hear you have a workaround - was being facetious in my last response.

and again, another Autocad user expects the rest of the world to read the autocad file formats, while the rest of the world relies on standardized neutral formats such as STEP or open standards...
And the problem is that the Autocad step translator is an addon to autocad, and this company has not bought it, so they expect you to take care of their translation problem.

I'm getting tired of this.
