Identifying ICs' from part numbers? 1

hi, a long while ago I pulled out a good number of ICs and various other miscelanious chips from an old junk PC (and I do mean *old*).. but I have no idea how to identify them, anyone know how to figure out what they do? serial number lookup database mabe? any help would be appreciated.
