I wish to migrate my I-deas 5 system to I-deas 6 in order to make it simpler to migrate files to NX6. There is alot of Siemens documentation provided about this, so I'm hoping someone can share their experiences with this task. A few questions:

1. Can I install I-deas 6 and link it to a "sandbox" TDM. Then, import parts into the sandbox TDM and use Content Migration manager in Native mode to get the parts into NX6? Finally I will go back to the Production TDM in I-deas 5 and archive the parts/drawings.

2. How hard is it to get my team of 5 people switched from I-deas 5 to I-deas 6?

2.1 Is it worth it considering we are switching to NX6 within the next 3-6 months?

Thanks all for your time and input.

Are you going to be using teamcenter to manage your NX6 data?

Yes, we will be using teamcenter to manage NX6 data.

However, our teamcenter admins are located some 300 miles away. I'm not sure if I can get the Teamcenter Integeration for I-deas installed. It might be easier to import Native NX6 files into teamcenter. I don't know what is involved in each process...

Note: We will be using 4-tier teamcenter.

After speaking with GTAC.. Its clear that migrating in Native mode is not good. Parts that are used in more than once assembly will make things confusing.

I'm going to migrate via TCII, and CMM.
