Where could I find the standards for the dimension and spec for I-Beams, tubing, etc. What I need is to be able to review existing structures, such as A-Frames, Locally-Produced (Shop-Made) Jib cranes, etc.
I think you should look into a few AISC publications.
Thay are:
1. AISC Manual of Steel Constrcution - Allowable Stress Design, 9th Edition: AKA ASD
2. AISC Manual of Steel Constrcution - Load and Factor Resistance Design, 3rd Edition: AKA LRFD
3. AISC Design Guide #15 - Rehabilitation and Retrofit Guide. This pulication lists all the steel shapes from circa 1890 to 1950's.
4. AISC Hollow Structural Sections - Connections Manual. This publication slists the "correct" structural properties for tubes. The properties listed in the ASD manaula are approximately 10 to 15 higher than they should be. The discrepancy is due to fabrication tolerances. The actual thickness may be lesss than the listed thickness. This "under thickness" is what causes the discrepancy.
5. AISC Design Guide #7, Industrial Buildings.
