I am trying to source some pressure sensitive paper that I can sandwich between two mating flat component surfaces & identify any high spots. Any high spots will show themselves as black markings on the white paper, the denser the marking the greater the high spot. Any ideas ?

we always used blueing between the shells on steam turbines (or when mounting the nozzle blocks) -- coat one side, put the pieces together and separate -- the blue would transfer to the surfaces that touched... this gave us the high spots and the low spots (when your dealing with steam at 1000 psig and and 1000 °F you don't want it coming out at the joints) (when all done, we used triple-boiled linseed oil for a gasket) -- I don't remember the name of what we used for blueing, I'll follow-up if you're interested..

I need to clarify my original question.

As well as high spots I am also trying to determine the distribution of the clamping force between the two components - this is where the pressure sensitive paper comes into play as it reveals more than 'blue'.

Just a thought, they use a pressure sensitve product for golf clubs to help the golfer see where the ball meets the club face -- you might check the product distributor (might visit you local golf store) and see where they get their supply. hopefully, someone else has a better suggestion...
