I am developing a complex de-ethanizer column to simulate what Henry Kister described in his book, (Case study 2.10) "Distillation Troubleshooting." I set up the column initially with Peng-Robinson with feed at 80 F, pressure at 350 psig. Initially, I disconnected the side-streams going back to the feed separator because I had trouble getting the column boot tank (for separating a side stream: water/hydrocarbon) to converge. Without it, I slowly introduced the side streams but still couldn't get rid of an error. The energy error was fixed after a few iterations.
My next attempt was to try different fluid packages: Kabadi Danner and even PRSV. The error changed but would not converge after over 1000 interations. The error did not diminish.
I next tried relaxing the iteration constraints. This change increased the error but did not eliminate it: still fixed and unconverged.
Any thoughts?
