I am trying to install Mandrake Linux as a dual boot with NT for the first time- I have installed Mandrake once before as a stand alone, but never with this configuration. I usually work with Solaris. I have a NT workstation already installed with software which I would rather not hose. (It would be a pain to get back up and running.) This is installed on one hard drive. I would like to install Mandrake on a separate hard drive.
1) Reading the message boards it sounds like there are a few problems with installing NT and Linux as a dual boot- ie Lilo. - are there any how to's on the process of installing to this configuration? I didn't see any on separate hard drive configurations.

2) I would assume I make the second hard drive a slave- and then install Mandrake on this drive- Will the bios pick up the second drive when Linux is installed and give me the option to dual boot or do I need additional software/or configurations to make this happen.

I would appreciate the help tremendously!

Thank you,

Adam

to be able to use Lilo for the multi boot manager there should be a linux "boot" partition in the master disk of controller 0 before the 1024th cylinder. I have such an installation works proper since 4 yrs. Since you already have NT in your fist disk then best workaround would be reinstalling NT (with recovery installation option) with multiboot after you installed linux and setup NT multiboot manager to boot linux. Probably you need to mark the linux "boot" partition active while partitioning your second disk. You need to configure the NT multiboot manager to start the kernel boot keys which are depends to your hardware and installation. You may obtain these keys by configuring the second disk as master and loading a small linux with lilo. Keys that lilo is using are valid also for the NT boot loader.

Good Luck
