How to import a deformed shape from a previous nonlinear analysis?

Hi everyone,

hope someone will help me.

I've run a nonlinear analisys in which I've obtained a deformed shape (picutre below). In shorts words I've modeled a cable with one fixed end (left) and with a roller on the right-end part. Since in the right part I've applied a certain horizontal force H and I've applied only dead load the cable deforms in a catenary.

Now i want to fix UX and apply a concentrated but, since I don't know how to properly change displacement boundary conditions, I would like to import this shape in a new so I can fix both ends apply again dead load and then the concentrated load but I don't know how to do it, any tips?

Recommended for you

Use pinned supports at both ends. Consider a single point load 'P' at 'a' from the left support (and 'b' from the right support). Neglecting cable weight, you can readily calculate the horizontal force 'H' in the cable if sag 's' is known.

R1 = Pb/L; R2 = Pa/L
H = R1a/s = Pab/Ls

If sag is small, the cable load may be taken as uniform. If sag is large, correction must be made for the variation in loading per unit length of horizontal span. This can be done numerically or by integration. In either case, the moment can be calculated at every point along the span.

Since a cable cannot resist bending moment, its shape follows the curve of the moment diagram. Maximum sag occurs at the point of maximum moment.
