Hello
Is there any way to tell Abaqus to disconnect specific elements connectivity when the stress reaches a value or in a specific time? Suppose two parts are tied together but after a while some elements at the interface get disconnected/separated. (like a rupture phenomenon)

Thanks

You can use Cohesive Elements or Cohesive Contact to simulate bonds that can fail (based on user defined failure criteria). Search the documentation for "cohesive".

Abaqus provides models for predicting progressive damage and failure.

Typically, you define a damage initiation criterion and evolution law. Once an element loses its load-carrying capacity it is removed from the mesh.

These capabilities are described in detail in the documentation:

Progressive damage and failure

Element deletion can also be controlled using a user subroutine and state variables:

EDIT: Sorry misread your question. Mustaine's solution is a better approach.

Throw in a traction separation law whose constants are identified with experimental data (or literature) and you are good to go.
