We recently had a several problem with entry of animals ( mainly cats ) through the cable channels to the 6kV installation . They made a short-circuit, damage and a lot of work for maintenance personnel. Does anyone know of an effective and safe way of preventing their entry through cable channels and holes.
Thanks in advance .

Unfortunately I do not.

I was reading the Eaton Blackout tracker and snakes, squirrels, and racoons were also culprits.

Cover or screen the holes. Plug the channels. A grout of Portland cement and vermiculite makes a good seal that is removavble if required. (That is if vermiculite is not yet a banned substance in your area.)

I agree with plugging everything up. Cats are not easily deterred.

Alternative: station at each opening a red-tailed hawk for day time and a great horned owl for night time.

Best to you,

Thanks for all the answers .
Mr Waross ,English is not my native , does anyone have experience with mixture of cement and vermiculite in such activities .
In my country vermiculite it is difficult to obtain and it is only used in small quantities for the care of plants .
Suggestion of my Heads is that with sand partially shut concrete cable ducts at the entrance to the installation but I do not agree because of wettability of sand *cable channels regularly have water at the bottom* and bad cooling for electric cables .
If someone sees some other problem with this idea...
Thanks .

The point is to use something to make the concrete very weak so that it may be removed in the event that a cable must be removed or added. The concrete fill needs to be only about 0.4 meters. Sand may not stop burrowing animals.

We have used an approximate 15/1 (sand to cement) mixture in a small cableway for a fire stop before. It was very easy to break up when we had to replace one of the 200kV cables. I would first try a couple of test mixtures to see if you get the strength you're looking for.
