Does simple dV/dt or dF/dt or d(load angle)/dt will work?

If you're connected to a larger system then a rate-of-change-of-frequency (ROCOF) or vector shift relay will likely work. You will need to determine some settings to suit your generator and the system it is connected to. In the UK they are marketed as G.59 relays after the Electricity Council document which defines the requirements for these devices. That might prove useful for a Google search.
