How to check perpendicularity?

I was going to check the perpendicularity on a part similar to the attachment on CMM but it went down. How do you check it manually?

Do you have an optical comparator? That would be the easiest.

I would see if I can place that journal on a v-block and rotate it smoothly. The trick is that the perp face will have to stay pressed up against the side of the v-block. Then keep that while you're indicating the face above the v-block. So I can't say for certainty it will catch every possible perp error.

Also keep in mind that the readout you'll be looking for must be compared to the allowable perp tolerance, which can range from .0007 to .0011. This is because of bonus tolerance, which comes into play whenever the circled M is invoked. (I mention this in case you're not familiar with that concept, because most CMMs account for it automatically.)
