Hello everybody,

Please, could you help me about the way to calculate the flow that a pumping ring can provide?

If I have the dimension of the pumping ring (diamater, height slots, number of slots, rpm, pressure in the seal chamber....) Which are the calculations I have to do to evaluate the flow??

Thanks

recommend that you give this to your local seal supplier who has all the details to carry out these calculations. There are too many factors to consider and if you have no experience then pass it on to the experts. Its highly unlikely that you will get this information from this site.
what are you trying to achieve? Design a pumping ring or calculate the efficiency of what you currently have?

Hello,

I think in this forum they are people very expert in mechanical seals issues.

what I want to know is, if I have a pumping ring with straight grooves how to know the flow that can give and how I can increase that flow, for instance increasing the height of the grooves (?) or reducing the number of grooves (?),or....

That's it.

May be someone can recommend me some literature where I can find this kind of information. Only this.

regards.

There are many variables to consider as Flexibox already stated. Elevation, tubing size, restrictions in the circuit, gland porting, location of the ports, size of the ports, pumping ring type (axial or radial flow), shaft speed, etc.

Are you trying to modify an existing seal design? I would re-iterate what Flexibox stated and get your local seal supplier involved. They base pumping ring circulation estimates on not only the variables above but numerous lab tests as well to validate the calculations.
