Hello,

Could you please let me know how to calculate IDT?
Pipe size 20
No of joints 10
Wall thickness 14.02 mm

Thank you

What is IDT
Welding context?
Capacity context?

Einstein gave the same test to students every year. When asked why he would do something like that, "Because the answers had changed."

Inch dia is just a method for contractors to quote welding rate.

In your case, it will be 20"x10joints = 200 inch dia.

Some include a multiple for number of passes to distinguish welding effort between a 7.5mm wall thickness from a 14mm wall thickness, but that is dependent on company estimate practices. There is no commonly defined method for such a calculation. Its a "User specific" term.

We also use this at my company for tendering and planning purposes.

Here's a good reference on estimating: Link

Even the redacted preview on their website gives you a general idea on the methodology.
