How do I create a oval spring i solidwork

I would like to do a oval spring like the CBL's Oval spring

The problem is how to use the 3D sketch and Convert Entities tool on all the trimmed edges. I only get a error message like (The sketch has not been updated because it contains conflicting model references which are due to the topological changes in the model.Please edit the sketch).

What is wrong with my sketch?

I'm not 100% sure what's causing your error, but I would just use the Intersection Curve tool instead of the Surface Trim. The errors disappear if you try it that way.

Eltron nailed it. The Intersection Curve is the easiest way to convert the edges into a 3D sketch. The Surface-Trim is unnecessary.

Check this one. The best is to use Intersection Curve as stated above.
