Can anyone explain the chemistry behind battery conditioner products like INOX that supposedly reduce sulphation? Their main constituent is Cadmium Sulphate, how does this reduce lead sulphate crystals from forming? The overall Pb acid reaction is:
PbO2 + Pb + 2H2SO4 <-> 2PbSO4 + 2H2O (2.041 V)
does the Cd preferentially bond to the sulphate relative to Pb moving the equilibrium to the left (charged) side?
