Horiztonal Loads

I'm SO glad they have a risa forum here now. My old posts regarding Risa questions got deleted by the admin...

We analyze residential foundation systems using Risa 3d, which sometimes get fairly large. We are constantly coming across the situation where we have to manually input lateral soil pressures on each plate, which is a time consuming process. Does anyone have any tips or tricks they use to apply soil loads to their plate models in a time efficient manner? We model our foundations in 1'x1' plates. So the first row would have 50psf, the second 100psf etc (i.e. constant load accross a single plate).

I've got a couple of suggestions.

1) On the Main Menu Toolbar under Insert - Structure there is an option for 3D grid for plates. This allows the generation of a hydrostatic type load.... You can't change these generated loads after they have been created. But, it does really help you create this type of load.

2) In the next version, we are introducing "wall panel" elments that can have taperd hydrostatic load applied to them. This version is scheduled for release in late October / early November.

Thanks for the feature preview. I work on tunnels and other equipment buried under crushed rock stockpiles (as well as many other types of structures and machines) and the ability to place tapered plate surface loads MAY help in speeding the creation of load fields. (Greg Rude)
