Hi all,

I am looking for how to determine the embedment length of HOOKED ANCHOR ROD in concrete shaft. LRFD TABLE 8-26 gives some information but looks like so small. only "12d".

Does anyone know how to determine the embedment length for hooked or headed anchor rods?

The latest research that I've found is by Ron Cook, Phd. and the results are incorporated into the PCA publication, "Strength Design of Anchorage to Concrete". I believe I read (somewhere) that ACI will also adopt these same procedures into the next edition of ACI code. The embedment length depends on several factors such as edge distances, rebar, shear and tensile forces, etc.. The cost of the publication is reasonable (maybe $20 ? I can't remember).

P.S. During review of the PCA publication, I got the impression that headed anchor bolts (without plates welded on the embedded end) offer more strength than hooked bolts.
