I counted 9 earthquakes according to my USGS emails off the east coast of Honshu since March 8th, all in excess of 6.0.

This is ridiculous.

Yes... out of 49 in excess of 5.0... my eMail screen was filled with events. During the recent Chile quake it was only about 1/4 of the screen; this time two screens. Never seen this type of activity. BBS has a film on the tsunami that struck.

Dik - I got the same when I counted this morning here in the midwest. About 48 or 49 (> 5) EQs since this started at about 12 am last night our time. Some of them less than 5 minutes in between events.

You're going to have to change your handle to QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQshake or something like it... I've never seen so much seismic activity in such a short period of time with such magnitude 'shakes'...

Dik

You're right!

I've only seen this much activity in the Sumatra earthquake and maybe one or two others Taiwan and or China. Just a lot over a very short period.

Others have been many but over a longer period of time.

This is just incredible and at 24km this is deeper than typical for the damage which shows the power in 8.8. I can only imagine if this would have been much shallower....

They are up to 81 over magnitude 5.0

I have read in spaceweather website that no link has been found between big earthquakes and solar activity, and I may accept that on account of what scientists think. Yet one ponders how both before the sumatra tsunami and this one there was abnormal solar activity, shown in a number of earthquakes in the Pacific basin and other strange phenomena (namely thunderous unexplained sounds).

Taking solely the "evidence" of "coincidence" go to

then plot the Low energy protons, 7 Day charts.

The solar wind Protons/cm2 and whatever surged almost 10000 to 100000 times prior the earthquake (from the giant flare of days before, they also have time of arrival). I think these things still need to be pursued, the correlation, I mean, if any.

And some pursue. I quote from a post in godlikeproduction forums:

"Recent scientific research confirms a connection between high energy charged particles in the ionosphere and earthquakes. A study conducted in 2008 by Jann-Yeng Liu, from the Center for Space and Remote Sensing Research in Chung-Li, Taiwan, examined more than 100 earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.0 or larger in Taiwan over several decades. The results indicate that almost all of the quakes down to a 35 km depth were preceded by distinct electrical disturbances in the ionosphere."

Also I have taken an image of the Magnetometer readings of stations at Alaska. It shows interesting activity these interesting days; if HAARP caused or more likely, solar storm, someone would know. But also pointing to correlation between magnetic activity (electrical, not only gravitational) and earthquakes.
