Guys do you have any info for the expected bubble size vs. hole diameter in a gas sparger lateral. I am troubleshooting an existing gas sparger and designing a new one. I have looked in Perry's but haven't found anything yet.

The process sparges (bubbles) gas into a liquid inside a vessel. There are diffusers (Sanitaires) with several small holes along their length installed off the laterals inside the vessel. The process runs OK when the diffusers are installed but when they are removed, the process goes off-spec which tells me the contact time has gone down and thus the bubbles are too big. We removed the diffusers as an experiment to try and reduce pressure drop since this is a pressure-drop intensive process.

I am a dumb ME so I'm a little out of my league here... As I see it this is a bubble size vs. contact time issue. It's like an older fella told me when I first got out of school: "Life is a cruel teacher - it makes you take the exam before you've had a chance to study". Ahy help or ideas you could provide would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!
Pete
