I am in the process of assessing our present hoist mechanism that uses a worm gear set, sprocket, chain and remote flexible shaft to lift a camera into an aircraft. The problem is the hoist is rated for 250lbs and proof tested to 500lbs. The new design has to lift twice as much and also be proof tested to twice as much. I would like to keep the same type of design as the field service people are familiar with how it works. My problem is how and what do I change to increase the capacity of the hoist with minimal impact? This system uses two gear boxes on either side of the camera and rides on I-beam rails. Hydraulics and electric are not options.
