I would like to get some opinions on minimum edge distance when using wedge anchors for fastening guardrails.
As per hilti specification the minimum edge distance for 5/8Dia KB3 anchors with eff. embedment 3"1/8 and min. member thickness 6" is 1"3/4 which seems awfully close. I usually specify epoxy anchors for close edge distances between 2" and 3" but KB3s are preferred by most contractors due to quick installation and also during the winter time when curing temperatures become an issue when using epoxies.
I would be very grateful for your comments and opinions.
Thank you

My general approach to gut checks of Hilti product installations is that Hilti knows more about their products than I do.

Not to say your concern isn't valid- instinct is an important part of good engineering.

But I don't believe that any number gets into Hilti's documentation by accident.
