Hi all,
our TPI is not permitting flange to Elbow BW weldings. Our standard is ASME B31.3 but i did not see anything about not permission of the this type of welding. Do you have any informations? Or substantial supporting document for this. please help

Fitting to fitting is perfectly acceptable.

You need to ask him or her why not and ask them to state the clause and code which they believe doesn't allow this. Expect silence or a degree of ambivalent statements.

So long as you can still get the studs in I can't see the issue here.

Does the construction specification say anything about this?

Are they both the same wall thickness / schedule?

Thanks. Next time try the piping and pipeline forum. This one is a bit of a backwater.

And let us know how you get on....

TPIs can sometimes be a little arrogant and don't expect people to question their pronouncements so be careful how you ask them. But they need to be able to provide a reason in writing which often forces a bit of a climb down when this is requested.
