Helical Curve

I couldn't draw a helical curve directly. I have to create a helical protrusion and then use derive curve from any edge.
Does anybody have idea how I can draw helical curve directly and parametrically?

I'm afraid SE still lacks a helical curve feature. I don't know why.

The only way to create a helical curve short of the construction technique you mentioned, is to create the helical equation in Excel to get coordinates of you curve and then use the curve by table function.
