When are these required (@steel beams supporting masonry)? What is the exact function of these anchors? Would they be required @ lintels in shears walls but not @ other lintels?

Or are they required only when there is a brick veneer involved?

I am confused, help please.

#315 wire rod anchor. welded to ea side of beam/lintel flange.

Look at page 14 of the link I gave you. The function of the anchors is to tie a masonry wall to a steel column. Part #315 is welded top and bottom to the column in the fabrication shop or in the field. Part #316 is inserted through the slot. This allows vertical adjustment so that the mason can align Part #316 with the masonry course.

Thanks BA. it appears that at beams these anchors would be required at the exterior conditions.

Does anyone actually use these anchors for structural purposes? By the time you are done applying the appropriate FOS, they really don't have much strength.

I agree that they are not very robust.
