Hi heat transfer gurus

i want to heat water in a tank with a helical tube coil...

what calculatins are required.

the tank water volume of 1500 liters is at 20 degC
and is to be raised or heated up to 60 degC.
i want to heat all the water in 1 hour.

boiler water at 80 degC at 1 liter/sec will pass
through the helical tube coil and exit at 60 degC.

any spreadsheet or formulas to do this and to work
out the coil surface area & size of tube.

You'll need both books plus additional ME/ChemE handbooks and additional research on heat exchangers. also, if you want to heat the water to 60dC, the exit temperature from the helical tube will need to be higher than 60dC.

Heat Exchanger Design Handbook has a section on Helical Coils. Also J.S. Jayakumar has articles on this subject.

There is probably a minor misconception here, given the limited information provided - the exit water temp will free float on the UA value and the current water bath temperature, and will most likely not stay fixed at 60degC all the time. Also, it is not possible for the coil hot water exit temp to be at 60degC when the bath temp has reached 60degC for a helical single pass coil, since this will mean cold end del T is zero.

Batch heating expressions are also in Perry Chem Engg Handbook.
