Hello,

is there any significant difference between heat treatment of 13% and 18% Mn steels?
Severals years ago, I had a discussion with specialist from local Metso foundry and he told me, that temperatures are the same, but 18% Mn steels are more sensitive to speed of quenching.
At that time I didn't ask him, if he meant time between pulling out of furnace to quenching or speed of cooling during quenching.
Does anybody have experience with this topic and is willing to share them?

I have been heat treating both the grades of steel. The solutionizing temperature is same 1050C. I transfer the castings into quenching tank in under 45 seconds. Any delay beyond 60 seconds are reheatreated.
