heat transfer via convection and conduction

Hi all,

I study Engineering and I have to simulate a heat Transfer for my Bachelor thesis. In my case the heat is transported via hot air over a rubber string and heats up the rubber surface through convection. In the next step the heat is transported through the rubber string via conduction.

My thought is, that I first calculate the part of heat flux of the given total heat flux in the canal, which heats the surface. In the next step I want to simulate the heat transfer through the material.
I only want to work with the user interface of abaqus, because unfortunately Iam not able to program.

First question: How can I separate the heat flux, which really hits the surface of the material, from the given heat flux in the heating canal? I know the flow Speed, the volume rate and the temp. of the hot air and the geometry of the rubber string.
Second question: How do I simulate the heat Transfer through the material? Which simulation typ is most accurate? surface film condition? concentrated film condition?
Third question: How do I create several time steps in Abaqus? When I simulate with surface film condition, the heat flux is only shown on the surface, but doesn't go through the material. In Addition I can only choose the BC and Loads in the Visualization. Any idea what went wrong?

I would be happy about any help!

You could always base your thesis on what went wrong with the experiment if the time element for submission of your project is running out. I can see a few problems with your experiment, however, student posting is against this forum rule.

"How do I simulate the heat Transfer through the material?"

That's conduction, and your subsequent comments suggest that you really don't understand any of the mechanisms at work.
