Heat Transfer through Finned Tube

Hello All

I want to calculate how much heat will be lost from a finned tube to the ambient air. Could anyone tell me. I tried looking up various sites and all of them do show different methods... so I am kind of confused now. Thanks
 
area * heat_transfer_coefficient * temperature_difference

is the basic equation. There are lots of heat transfer resources on the web, but they all have the same basic approach, Newton's Law.

What kind of fin, what kind of fin to tube attachment? There are so many variables in your question that it is kind of a 'how high is up' question.

Any good heat transfer text book will have a chapter or chapters on finned tube heat transfer.

Or a "how long is a rope" question.

A rope is twice as long as it is from the middle to one end...........
 
You might want to look at the Wolverine tube databooks:


They've been designing finned heat exchangers longer than most of us have been around.

All typical heat transfer text books have special sections for the exact 'heat transfer through finned tubes' and similar including theory, formulas and practical examples.
