I have a 6" buried carbon steel pipe with a small circulating hot water flow rate of 15 usgpm through it. I am looking for a reference to calculate the heat loss from the water through the pipe to the soil. The water enters at 180F and I would like to determine the heat loss so that I can size a heater to replace heat lost to the surroundings.
Does any body know a reference for this type of problem or a heat loss coefficient under these conditions?
Thanks
