Large shear load on existing column base results in large shear forces on anchor bolts. Bolts ok, however any estimate on the length of bolt bearing on concrete (Please supply reference) would be appreciated.

I understand you are talking of Anchors to Concrete, specifically its required length.

Steel Design Guide Series 1
Column Base Plates

has guide on it.

You have also different worksheets in the Mathcad Collaboratory that can help you to the purpose of anchors to concrete under such heading in the civil engineering folder.

The

Steel Design Handbook
Tamboli

also has something on this.
