Does anyone know if there is anything published (AASHTO/FHWA, etc.) that provides an estimate of number of ESAL's for loaded and empty 20CY haul truck. I don't know have info. on axle config. Thanks!

The AASHTO tables will cover this if you know the axle configuration and curb weight of the vehicle. You can get that from the manufacturer. You can estimate the payload at the maximum capacity of the truck.

The tables cover single, tandem and tridem axle configurations. If articulated, the truck will usually have a single front axle on the tractor and a tandem rear axle. The trailer will usually have a tandem axle, so you will have a single axle and two tandems. If not articulated, usually a single axle and one tandem or one tridem.

Ron, that's the rub, I only know the truck carries 20CY, no information on the truck at all. Probably the best I can do is select a truck configuration based on a 20CY capacity and calculate the corresponding ESAL based on weight of 20CY. Any ideas on a conservative configuration for a 20 CY truck?

moe333....are the trucks for "off-road" use only or are they for over the road applications? If off-road, I would look at Caterpillar and Terex equipment.

For over the road, you have to look at the trailer manufacturers or dump truck body manufacturers.
