Hatching .sldprt

Can a surface area be hatched within the part. Or is it only possible in the drawing (sw2005)

Hatching is normally only done in the drawing, but you could apply a texture (to represent a hatch) to a surface if required.

CBL is correct. You can create a view of your model with hatch, then turn to shaded.

Thanks. I'd rather not have the view shaded though. I did create the hatch, it fills the whole surface but hatch can be seen through the wall that surrounds the surface i'm hatching.

Do you want a hatch in the model or drawing? Your OP suggests the model.

Can you post a screen capture of the problem you are seeing, and/or an image of what you are trying to do.

heres what i have..it always ends up looking like this in the drawing. But i thought if it was possible in the model to hatch the area it may look right in the drawing view.

If you created the hatch (in the model) as lines in a sketch, then yes it will show through.

If you used the Area Hatch/Fill then that must be a glitch/bug/limitation.

You are running SW05 so the texture will not help you in the drawing. You would need SW06 for that.

What are you trying to represent using the hatch?
If you can live with a shaded view, you could simply colour the surface in the model.

I just wanted to show and area not to be painted. showing the hatch was a request. I just decided to throw a leadered note and forget the hatch. And yes its actually a limitation in the function i believe. Any idea if there's more functionality to Area Hatch/Fill in 2006? how do the new textures work? I also working to convince management to upgrade

In your case, I would change the surface texture or color.

Yes, this is a limitation of the current hatch functionality. I actually spoke about this and other hatch limitations with SW at SolidWorks World yesterday. Maybe they will do some work in this area.

We do a number of paint drawings - we've found the best way is to colour the area (instead of hatching). That way, the different colours can be shown on the drawing and model.

By the way, this process was very slow in SW2005 - much better in SW2006.
