My engineering employer is currently being acquired by a larger firm approximately five times the size and this will be the first time I have been affected by a merger/acquisition. Has anyone been through this before and have any advice to offer or pitfalls to avoid etc?

Thanks for all the replies. I'll give it a few months to see how it goes although are also dusting off the resume.

Sold four times 1989 and 2008; along the way there were seven other firms added to the mix. It's usually people on overhead who are the first to go. If you're billable you might be OK. The current company in the chain sucks - perhaps that's unfair; it might be a good company outside of NY. I'm not complaining about pay or benefits. When I was moved to their office 8 years ago it was the strangest office politics I' d ever seen. We didn't count for anything; even though we had a lot of work to keep their people busy. You just have try going with the flow.
