Hello all!

I have the same question as the thread referenced.
The situation is, ASME B16.20 defines the maximum hardness for 316 rig-joint gasket 160BHN.
But flanges ASTM A182 F316L does not have a hardness requirement.
So how can I know the difference of hardness between the gasket and the flange to make sure that the flange ring groove won't be danified at the bolt tightening?

Check the hardness of the flange. It should be within 160 BHN.

316L SS is not hardenable by heat treatment. That gives it a narrow range of hardness available. Find that range and assume the lowest value for your calculations.
