I am trying to find information on the use of gypsum drywall in a shear wall system. We have a structure that was constructed using 3.5/8" metal studs at 16" centers and 5/8" gyp board each side. I would like to know how to get an rough idea about the shear resistance of such an assembly. Any information on this would be appreciated.

Contact the Gypsum Association or a Dry Wall Supplier.

Also do a search on this web site as I think this has been discussed before.

My guess its probably about the same as gyp over wood studs.

The IBC now has tables for this. See section 2211 and their associated tables.
