Guideline or formula on slack to remove timing belts off of pulleys

Is there a guideline or formula on the amount of center to center distance to reduce in order to remove a timing belt off of pulleys?

I'd normally do guess but there's has to be a better way to calculate this.

ΔC= (L/2⋅π)−R

ΔC is the required reduction in center distance.
L is the belt length.
R is the radius of the larger pulley (driven or driver).

Alternatively, a practical rule of thumb is to reduce the center distance by 1-3% of the total belt length, but this can vary depending on the belt size, tensioning requirements, and pulley configuration.
